1.) Describe the term ‘prototype’ and give reasons why it could be used.

According to the websitehttp://dictionary.reference.com/browse/prototype

the word prototype is defined as the original or model on which something is based or formed.

The reasons why prototypes are used are so they can experiment with it and add or change any parts that the manufacturers feel isnt working. They can use prototypes to give out and they compare and contrast on the different ideas that the car plane or any new object should have.

When the designers make prototypes, they can be put into mass production and have their prototype as a full scale product. Another reason why prototypes are used is to show the functions and capabilities of their subject. Once this is all done they can finally put their product into the sales market.

2.) Discuss another industry other than the car industry that would use prototypes.

Another industry that uses prototypes is the aviation industry. They use prototypes to see the functions of the new air planes that go to war and also the safety for the people who are in it. Like the aeroplanes that carry hundreds of passengers across country to country need to be safe and function well to ensure the safety of the people inside it.

Some special features of a car that is needed would be

1.Remote Keyless Entry- when you only have to press a button to unlock the doors or open up the doors.

2.OnStar System-With OnStar, help from a real-live person is always just a button-push away.

3. Anti-lock brakes (ABS)-Simple physics dictates that a turning wheel has more traction than one that is skidding.

4. Electronic stability/skid-control system-ESC systems use the anti-lock brake sensors (which show individual wheel speed), accelerometers, and steering wheel/pedal position sensors to figure out what the car is doing and what the driver wants it to do.

5.Telescoping steering wheel/adjustable pedals-Most new cars have height-adjustable (tilt) steering columns; some cars have steering wheels that telescope (move in and out) and/or electrically adjustable pedals.
