What is an Informed Conscience?

In order to make a decision doctor’s access a wide range of medical knowledge and patient history in order to diagnose a problem and treatment. The same principle can be applied to making moral decisions. We must be well informed regarding all the facts of the situation, moral values, virtues and laws in order to make our final decision. Therefore, an informed catholic conscience is an educated conscience that knows in any given situation.

Read the following scenario and answer the questions:

Roger Smith, a quite competent swimmer, is out for a leisurely stroll. During the course of his walk he passes by a deserted pier from which a teenage boy who apparently cannot swim has fallen into the water. The boy is screaming for help. Smith recognizes that there is absolutely no danger to himself if he jumps in to save the boy; he could easily succeed if he tried. Nevertheless, he chooses to ignore the boy’s cries. The water is cold and he is afraid of catching a cold — he doesn’t want to get his good clothes wet either. “Why should I inconvenience myself for this kid,” Smith says to himself, and passes on.

1.) There are always TWO sides to a conscience. What would Roger’s conscience be telling him?

One side of Roger’s conscience would be saying to him to go and help the boy, and you cant let him drown because you will live with guilt, and the other side will be saying to him to leave the  boy there to drown and you wont have guilt you will have fun.

2.) Think of an example of Jesus’ teaching and explain how his teachings can help us to make an appropriate decision?

Blessed are the gentle;they shall have the earth as their inheritance”

We can use this teaching in making the appropriate decision by being gentle in our actions. Being gentle in our actions can help us because when i want to fight someone or someone does something wrong to me then instead of busting his eye i can just be gentle about it.

1. Watch the following video:

1.) Describe the term ‘interactive TV’.

The term interactive tv is where any type of media that allows the user to interact or control or select and choose using a remote or whatever device that allows the user to do this. For example. the video game Wii lets the gamer instead of using a game controller, you can use a remote that characterizes the object of a cricket bat, a tennis racket and a bowling hand. Also another example like Foxtel Digital lets the viewer choose from a variety of categories of what they want to watch, lets the viewer put programs on record, on pause, on rewind, fast forward and also lets them buy movies from the box office movie selection.

2.) Explain the reasons why interactive TV is now called TV 2.0.

I think that the reason why interactive TV is now called TV 2.0 because TV started as turning knobs to switch channels and didnt let you interact with the tv as you do now. Then i think TV1.0 happened and had a remote for you to switch channels and you had to remember numbers that were your tv channels. Then now TV2.0 is where you control the action. You choose whether you want to watch this or that and when you want to watch it. Now they have the latest movie selection downloads for you to choose from and you can view and select whenever you want.

3.) Outline the positives and negatives of implementing interactive TV.

Some positives that interactive TV supplies is for one, the viewer can choose, watch and plan to watch movies, music and games anytime and everytime. Interactive TV allows viewers to interact with the TV by having a device such as a remote, to navigate the controls of the TV. Interactive TV is a newer and improved version of the normal television. It is quite interesting as to how you can just download movies from your TV connected to your phone internet and then watch it from your boxtop in HD on your new plasma.

4.) Apple released recently Apple TV – Take 2. Describe the reasons why it needed to be changed.

The reasons why Apple TV needed to be changed and be re-created to the new Apple TV- Take 2 was because the creators of MAC came up with an idea of Apple TV which was designed to be an accessory for Itunes  and your computer. The producers learned to find out that the viewers and customers really all they wanted was movies, movies, movies, but they weren’t giving that to them. So now they have remade Apple TV-TAKE 2 and it syncs with your computer but it is not required. Now you can rent movies straight from your TV. View audio and video podcasts from your Apple TV also you can view images from websites. And you can watch videos from Youtube and buy music from your internet and sync music from your computer to your HD TV.

Watch the following clips on the Dalia Lama:

  • Read the following articles:

    Article 1
    Article 2

Answer the following questions on your blog:

1.) Give a brief description of who the Dalai Lama is? (Include resources to support

  • His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, TenzinCourse: CSTIST 2 – “Morality, Justice and Peace” Gyatso, is both the head of state and the spiritual leader of Tibet.  He was born on 6 July 1935, to a farming family, in a small hamlet located in Taktser, Amdo, northeastern Tibet.  At the age of two the child, who was named Lhamo Dhondup at that time was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso.  The Dalai Lamas are believed to be manifestations of Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and patron saint of Tibet.  Bodhisattvas are enlightened beings who have postponed their own nirvana and chosen to take rebirth in order to serve humanity.
  • Taken from http://www.dalailama.com/page.105.htm

  • 2.) Evaluate how the actions of the Dalai Lama in regard to the riots in Tibet would be regarded as
    exemplary moral integrity.

The actions of the Dalai Lama in regard to the riots in Tibet would be regarded as exemplary moral integrity because he knows his morals and the difference between right and wrong and that is what he is doing. He left from his pilgrimage to come and speak to the people of Tibet and also to the monks and had spoken out to the public to ask for the riots to stop. And for the people to stop what they are doing. And for the government to make peace with people. He is acknowledging his morals and sticking by them. But on the other hand other people think that he is the one that started the riots and should be in exile.

1. Watch the following video:

1.) Explain the purpose of using ‘youtube’ as a source of digital media advertising?  The purpose of using youtube as a source of digital media advertising is that the newer age are using youtube for posting up school videos, videos that include friends mucking around and also just pictures and images in the form of movies. Everyone uses youtube and views youtube and for example the Tibet riots. The chines government has banned yotube because people have posted up classified imagery and films, and to stop alot of people from viewing this they just banned the website so that no one could see what they are trying to hide. Everyone uses youtube and its likely to say that if you post a viedo on youtube, people will see it. So that is why some people use the website as a digital media advertising website.
2.) Discuss how collaborative media sites such as youtube, myspace and bebo have changed the current boundaries of media such as news, advertising ect.

Collaborative media sites such as youtube, myspace and bebo have changed the current boundaries of media such as news and advertising because more people can view these webistes and its a chance to put information up or view information or images. Videos, text and images can be put up on these social websites. The way that this has changed is people view these websites as if its a news website. And to me its like these websites show more and more news and news that people want to hide are on these websites.

3.) Provide a link to an advertising commercial on youtube.

With reference to the image below and answer the following questions:

Digital Media
1.) Define the term ‘digital media’.

Refers to any type of information in digital format including computer-generated text, graphics and animations, as well as photographs, animation …

2.) How has digital media evolved over the last 5-10 years?

Digital media has changed over 5-10 years in alot of ways. Instead of the old read the newspaper black and white texts with black and white pictures, things have changed and now you can actually go on the internet and find the newspaper digitally as your homepage. Websites like ninemsn.com.au, theage.com are exapmles of digital media. These have changed because they have more colour pictures with highlights and detail. Text comes in different color and they have tabs as in turning a page is as easy as clicking a tab.

3.) Discuss the reasons why digital newspapers are extremely popular?

Digital newspapers are extremely popular because of the growing age. Youngsters like myself all grow up with the knowledge of internet, faster info and access. Its faster and easier to access an internet website that shows exactly whats in the papers. Its more appealing than the average newspaper. To me there is somethings that i would want to look at in the newspapers but why bother when you can just stay at home and read it on your computer.

1.) Watch the following clip:

Scenario 1: You are on a train coming home from a day at the beach. The train stops at a station and a group a youths get on the train and start bashing an elderly ethnic man. You notice people getting off the train.

Discuss what you would do in this situation.

In this situation i would go and help the man and fend the youths off until help came. I would also contact police straight away and alert the guards compartment.

Scenario 2: You get a message from a girl that you are interested asking you to come over her house. When you get there a number of her friends are present and they say they are bored. One of them promotes the idea of going for a walk and causing a riot. At first you tell them “No way”. However, the girl you like states that “she will like you more if you go”.

Discuss what you would do in this situation.

In this situation i would leave this group even though i like the girl who is like the hottest chick there. I dont really care but no girl is worth going to prison for unless you meet the right one. So i would leave the group situation immediately so i dont involve myself in getting into trouble.
