1. Watch the following video:

1.) Explain the purpose of using ‘youtube’ as a source of digital media advertising?  The purpose of using youtube as a source of digital media advertising is that the newer age are using youtube for posting up school videos, videos that include friends mucking around and also just pictures and images in the form of movies. Everyone uses youtube and views youtube and for example the Tibet riots. The chines government has banned yotube because people have posted up classified imagery and films, and to stop alot of people from viewing this they just banned the website so that no one could see what they are trying to hide. Everyone uses youtube and its likely to say that if you post a viedo on youtube, people will see it. So that is why some people use the website as a digital media advertising website.
2.) Discuss how collaborative media sites such as youtube, myspace and bebo have changed the current boundaries of media such as news, advertising ect.

Collaborative media sites such as youtube, myspace and bebo have changed the current boundaries of media such as news and advertising because more people can view these webistes and its a chance to put information up or view information or images. Videos, text and images can be put up on these social websites. The way that this has changed is people view these websites as if its a news website. And to me its like these websites show more and more news and news that people want to hide are on these websites.

3.) Provide a link to an advertising commercial on youtube.

With reference to the image below and answer the following questions:

Digital Media
1.) Define the term ‘digital media’.

Refers to any type of information in digital format including computer-generated text, graphics and animations, as well as photographs, animation …

2.) How has digital media evolved over the last 5-10 years?

Digital media has changed over 5-10 years in alot of ways. Instead of the old read the newspaper black and white texts with black and white pictures, things have changed and now you can actually go on the internet and find the newspaper digitally as your homepage. Websites like ninemsn.com.au, theage.com are exapmles of digital media. These have changed because they have more colour pictures with highlights and detail. Text comes in different color and they have tabs as in turning a page is as easy as clicking a tab.

3.) Discuss the reasons why digital newspapers are extremely popular?

Digital newspapers are extremely popular because of the growing age. Youngsters like myself all grow up with the knowledge of internet, faster info and access. Its faster and easier to access an internet website that shows exactly whats in the papers. Its more appealing than the average newspaper. To me there is somethings that i would want to look at in the newspapers but why bother when you can just stay at home and read it on your computer.

1.) Watch the following clip:

Scenario 1: You are on a train coming home from a day at the beach. The train stops at a station and a group a youths get on the train and start bashing an elderly ethnic man. You notice people getting off the train.

Discuss what you would do in this situation.

In this situation i would go and help the man and fend the youths off until help came. I would also contact police straight away and alert the guards compartment.

Scenario 2: You get a message from a girl that you are interested asking you to come over her house. When you get there a number of her friends are present and they say they are bored. One of them promotes the idea of going for a walk and causing a riot. At first you tell them “No way”. However, the girl you like states that “she will like you more if you go”.

Discuss what you would do in this situation.

In this situation i would leave this group even though i like the girl who is like the hottest chick there. I dont really care but no girl is worth going to prison for unless you meet the right one. So i would leave the group situation immediately so i dont involve myself in getting into trouble.

1.) Watch the following clip:

Describe what is a person’s ‘conscience’.

A persons conscience is the voices inside their head when they have to make a decision. The choices a person makes depends on their conscince and their moral theory. Decisions like robbing a liqour store or bashing someone up all happen if your conscience tells you to do these things. You can either make a good or bad decision.

2.) Watch the following clip:

Describe how a persons conscience works in making moral decisions. Explain the relationship between religion and conscience.

A persons conscience works  when they have to make a decision and the choice that they make depends on what decision their conscience makes or what their moral development theory is. The relationship between religion and conscience is that in religion there is a set of rules that tell you that you have to abide by, and tell you that you have to do this because this is right. But on the other hand conscience is your head, voices in your head, telling you what you should do. Unlike religion telling you what you have to do, your conscience has two sides a good side and a bad side. Each of them telling you what they both think is right

Group Task 2-Moral Development Theory

You are required to answer the following questions:

1.) What is a ‘Moral Development Theory’?

Moral Development Theory refers to a persons psycology that shows how moral reasoning develops as a person matures.

2.) Research the following THREE moral development theories:- Lawrence Kolhberg’s stages of moral reasoning

Kolhberg’s theory of development works on 6 (six) stages.

1. The person will act because they are afraid of being punished

2. The persons choices are motivated by waht they will get out of it.

3. A person will act according to the need to be liked and to gain approval.

4. A person will act according to what is said by someone or which has been accepted as a higher authority such as the law

5. The person makes a decision based on the consensus of society or the group about the issue.

6. A person makes the decision based on the demands of justice.

- Jean Piaget stages of moral reasoning.
Piagets Theory of development works on 3 stages.

1. The first stage is known as premoral judgement. When babies are born until the age of 5, children at this age do not understand the concept of rules and have no idea of morality, internal or external.

2. The second stage is known as moral realism. Moral Realism lasts from the age of 5-9. Children in this age group now understand the concept of rules but is known as external. This age group only obey these rules only because it is there. Since a rule tells you what your not supposed to do, children follow rules because of its consequences but not because of its wrongdoing.

3. The third and final stage is known as moral realtivity. This stage begins at the age of 7 and overlaps at first with moral realism. Children at this age now understand that the rules are fixed and cannot be changed without a common consent, then they start to develop their own internal morality which is no longer the same as external rules. A major development is that actions are now evaluated more in terms of their intentions, which most people would see as a more sophisticated view of moraltiy. Piaget also thought that children started to develop a firm concept of the necessity that the punishment fits the crime.

As a group select the BEST one and complete the following:

a.) Describe the main features of the theory.

Kholberg’s theory

The main Features of Kholbergs theory is that…

1. People can be on any stage even if they are young unlike Piaget’s theory

2. The people with more moral maturity will be at the high levels

3. Kholbergs theory is one where every person can relate to.

4. Works on 6 stages, Higher stage=high moral maturity, Is involved with decision making and justice.

b.) Outline the reasons for its selection when compared to the other theories. This report should be uploaded into the drop box below. You will receive a mark out of 10 for the submission.

Our Group has chosen Kholberg’s theory because we saw Piaget’s theory and didn’t like how it was only 3 stages and only lasted till a person was around 9-10 years old, Whereas Kholberg’s theory can be applied to just about every decision a person will ever make and is a theory that will apply for a persons whole life.

1.) Define the term “Moral Maturity”

Moral relates to knowing the difference between right and wrong and adapts to a standard of right behaviour.

Maturity is the state of being mature, fully developed.

Therefore to me moral maturity is being able to understand the difference between right and wrong when you have fully grown and developed a better understanding.

2.) Read the following article:

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/knife-arrest-cop-pelted/2008/03/24/1206206967590.html

Discuss the reasons why the 25 year old man mentioned in the article would be regarded as having a lack of ‘moral maturity’.

The 25 year old man mentioned in the article would be regarded as having lack of maturity because this man is 25 years old and he still doesnt know the rights and wrongs in life. He has fully developed as a grown man and did not hesistate to break the law under any circumstances. He doesnt know hes morals as well as a normal person is suppposed to. Its obvious to know that your not supposed to go around carrying a knife whilst damaging cars. He spat, assaulted, and maliciously damaged, he does NOT know his morals at a developed age.

3.) Identify the differences between ‘morality’ and ‘immorality’.

Morality: concern with the distinction between good and evil or right and wrong; right or good conduct

Immorality: immorality (the quality of not being in accord with standards of right or good conduct) “the immorality of basing the defense of the West on the threat of mutual assured destruction”

4.) Watch the following clip and describe the reasons why Governor Spitzer’s actions would be regarded as ‘immoral’.

Governor Spitzer’s actions would be classified as immoral because he is a governor and someone who should be trusted yet he is dealing with women and prostitution. People look up to him but he takes advantage of his job and his money. He obviously doesnt know the difference between right and wrong.

1.) Which countries have banned the Internet?

Belarus

Burma

China

Cuba

Egypt

Iran

Saudi Arabia

North Korea

Saudi Arabia

Syria

Tunisia

Turkmenistan

Uzbekistan

Vietnam

Libya

Maldives

Nepal
2.) Describe what the following image is about? (Provide TWO websites to support your findings)
Banned

Youtube is being banned in China and in Tibet. The reason why Dalai Lama is being posted on this image is because the Chinese government are accusing him of masterminding the riots and protests. Youtube is being banned in China because classified footage of pre-riots and also what government was doing to the people is being posted up on the US video sharing website Youtube. This is what the Chinese government is trying to hide.

3.) Provide evidence of at least FIVE sources (Websites, newspapers, blogs, videos ect) that discuss the reasons why these countries have taken such a drastic approach.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_depth/7292130.stm-

The reasons for banning the site youtube vary from country to country, but include government objections to religious and political material, foreign sites and pornography.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/technology/newsid_7264000/7264277.stm

China, Pakistan, United Kingdom, Germany, Egypt, North Korea and Burma are all blocking and banning sites from their public viewers because they try to hide classified information, keep away illegal content, block and ban pornography websites and bans hate race crimes.

http://www.rsf.org/article.php3?id_article=10748

Internet connections are very rare in Burma, partly for reasons of poverty but mostly because of the military regime’s harsh crackdown on freedom of expression. As in Cuba and North Korea, the Internet frightens the authorities, who keep it out of the hands of their subjects. So it is growing very slowly, with the opening of only a handful of cybercafés and assignment of a few thousand e-mail addresses, all under tight surveillance.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_censorship_in_the_People’s_Republic_of_China

The escalation of the government’s effort to neutralize critical online opinion comes after a series of large anti-Japanese, anti-pollution and anti-corruption protests, many of which were organised or publicised using instant messaging services, chatrooms and text messages. Although the existence of an Internet police task force, estimated at more than 30,000,[3] has been known for some time, attention is mostly focused on their work as censors and monitors. Critical comments appearing on Internet forums, bulletin boards, blogs, vlogs or any major portals such as Sohu and Sina are usually erased within minutes.

People who illegally download films and music will be cut off from the internet under new legislative proposals to be unveiled next week.

Internet service providers (ISPs) will be legally required to take action against users who access pirated material, The Times has learnt.

Users suspected of wrongly downloading films or music will receive a warning e-mail for the first offence, a suspension for the second infringement and the termination of their internet contract if caught a third time, under the most likely option to emerge from discussions about the new law.

4.) Discuss how you would feel if the Australian government banned the Internet. What privileges would you lose? (2 Paragraphs)

If the Australian government were to ban the internet in Australia the privelleges i would lose would be to socialise with my friends. I wouldnt be able to talk to my friends or send them information or tell them what was happening at school today. I dont know what would really happen without internet but i do know that it would be harder to communicate, and talk with other people from different countries.

Another privellege that i would loose would be to find information and research for images and important videos for school. There would be no other way of finding this information quicker than finding it quicker on the internet. I would have to access a whole of  books just to find a whole bunch of information whereas if i look it up on the internet it narrows the search down for me to find the school information that i would want to look for. I would not be able to watch documentaries and videos from other countries to help me with school.

Internet would be quite a big loss in Australia for me.

The Rabbits Exposition

The Rabbits Exposition

The book The Rabbits written by John Marsden and illustrated by Shaun Tan is an informational picture book. The illustrator purposely puts symbols in every page explaining in much more detail to what the page or picture means. Tan also makes you the viewer spot the main picture by placing the main image in the middle of the page. John Marsden writes little but has effect with the way he uses he’s words. The Rabbits is about the invasion of the rabbits onto the shores of the brown possums. The rabbits soon dominate and spread across the lands of the brown possums. The brown possums soon felt like strangers to their own home and later began flee from their homes. The brown possums felt a loss of culture when the rabbits started to introduce new plans to build over sacred grounds, took away their spiritual beings by destroying their villages and chopped down their trees and scared away their friends. The message that this book emphasizes is the fact that the rabbits had invaded the brown possums land and culture. They fought with them but for what reason? That is the question that the brown possums ask themselves. Some themes that are included are the Stolen Generation when the rabbits take away the brown possum children , the fact that the brown possums feel a loss of culture and also the effect of the invasion on the shores. The reason why the Author and Illustrator chose rabbits was because rabbits eat a lot and they are pests. They breed fast and are always a mess. This resembles the white people invading the land of the aboriginals.

The rabbits have taken the children away from the brown possum parents. This can be seen on the DPS11 which uses symbolism to show the children being taken away and the peacock tailed pen that the rabbit used to write with, there are drops of blood dripping from the end, maybe blood of a brown possum child. The white cart that the children are being floated away in, in the sky represents the transport that the children may have been taken away in. Just another way of expressing it.  The visual techniques that help emphasize the theme are salience, when I first opened up the page I saw the big rabbit on the left with a peacock feathered point pen with dripping blood and a paper with a signature and a fingerprint. There is a strong contrast in colors as there is a black to a white and blue background. There are strong vectors in this page as I start off with the big rabbit then move down the line of rabbits and then look up at the children being taken away.

The rabbits show negative effects on the loss of culture shown in DPS5 because the rabbits show plans to the viewer of what they wish to do to the land that they now own. The brown possums feel that they have a loss of culture because the rabbits have now been introducing new things and new animals into the country and have been building over sacred grounds. There is a little rat eating a native animal and then another native animal being run over by the rabbits’ carriage. There is salience in the picture as we look straight at the painting because it is the biggest image there, and then we look to the background which we don’t have a connection with. In the background I can see the rabbits’ ship being hulled to the left of the page and also rabbits marking out lines and shapes across the land. There are also rabbits building behind and in the image it shows what they want to be building. Then as you move up the page you can see the brown possums up in the tree off the ground talking amongst themselves. It is like they don’t have a connection with their land anymore. There is a strong modality in colors as they are very bright and show dominance and power. The background has a strong bright blue with white buildings and a white footpath with black text. This is why the rabbits have a negative effect on the loss of culture.

The effect of the invasion of the rabbits shown in DPS4 looks like the rabbits had a very strong and over powering invasion. The rabbits are all dressed in royal armor and have gold and yellow on their uniforms. There is one big central image and that is the exaggerated size of the ship in the middle of the page showing how dominant the British were and showing how much power the rabbits had in whatever they did. The ship also resembles power and wealth and royalty because it has the golden yellow color. Other smaller symbols which are the rabbits have telescopes in their hands and are already marking out the land that they think is theirs. The rabbits resemble the British when invading the unknown land. There is a strong contrast of colors, especially on the ship. As the colors contrast between a strong bright gold and a dark yellow. These colors represent wealth, royalty and power.  The reading path has some significance because it takes my eyes straight to the big ship to which the rabbits travelled on and the artist purposely exaggerates the size of the ship representing the rabbits being very strong in power and very dominant. The effect of the invasion of the rabbits gave negative effects to the brown possums as soon as the rabbits arrived because soon after the brown possums started to crash and fall. The brown possums began to have a loss of culture, and also lost their spiritual and physical attributes.

The book The Rabbits is an informational picture book that should be read for all. It is obvious what the message was and that was, why did the rabbits take over the brown possums land? Why did the rabbits try and make the brown possums adapt to the rabbits lifestyle of living when the brown possums already had their own way of living? What did the brown possums ever do to the rabbits? This book shows you in great illustrated detail of what the British did to the Aboriginals. The Rabbits actually resemble the British and the reason why John and Shaun chose Rabbits was because the rabbits are pests, they are always messing up the place, they eat anything and everything, and they don’t care about anything else but their safe beings. We can all learn from this book as to what happened and we as a whole have something to do with most of the events that took place in the book.
